The Modeling and Applications (ModApp) Group of University of the Philippines Diliman actively participated in the 2025 International Workshop on Mathematical Biology (IWOMB) held on January 20-23 at the Coron Westown Resort in Palawan, which drew researchers, students, and experts from around the world. Themed "Mathematical Biology in the Data-Driven Era: Bridging Models and Biological Insights," the event provided a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and showcased the latest advancements in mathematical biology.
The four-day workshop featured 8 plenary sessions, 6 workshops, and 1 poster session, offering a deep dive into diverse topics like biological modeling, computational techniques, and applications in modern biology. Hands-on mini-projects allowed participants, especially graduate students and early-career researchers, to apply theory to practice with guidance from leading international and local experts.
The event emphasized the importance of integrating mathematical models with biological insights to address real-world problems, paving the way for groundbreaking research and stronger interdisciplinary networks among Filipino and international scientists.
