ModApp Grad Students Clinch Top Poster Awards at IWOMB 2026

Two graduate students both from the MS Applied Mathematics program of the Institute, Mr. Al Jay Lan Alamin and Mr. Dan Mark Orapa, were awarded with the Best Poster Awards garnering First and Third places, respectively.

  • (First Place Best Poster) Al Jay Lan Alamin’s poster is entitled, “Optimizing Carbon Inputs and Outputs in Direct Ocean Capture System,” and

  • (Third Place Best Poster) Dan Mark Orapa’s poster is entitled, “Structure-Based Graph Neural Network Models to Predict Protein-Protein Interaction with Low-Sequence Similarity Datasets.”

Their works were awarded for their scientific merit, clarity, and contribution to advancing research in mathematical biology.

Now in its eighth year, IWOMB aims to promote state-of-the-art mathematical research in the Philippines, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration between mathematicians and biologists not just within the Philippines but also with international researchers. It involved plenary talks, roundtable discussions, and hands-on mini projects designed to foster and spur active participation among the participants. The workshop is organized by the Philippine Society for Mathematical Biology, currently presided by Dr. Aurelio A. de los Reyes V, a professor at the Institute.

ModApp’s participation, as well as Mr. Alamin and Mr. Orapa’s recognition, reflects the group’s and the Institute’s strong commitment to research excellence and continued advancement of knowledge in the field of mathematical biology in the country.
