Mr. Aljay Alamin and Ms. Michelle Raza from the Modeling and Applications (ModApp) Group were honored with Best Poster Awards at the 2025 International Workshop on Mathematical Biology (IWOMB), held in Coron, Palawan, from January 20–23, 2025. Both posters were recognized for their relevance and contributions to the field of mathematical biology.
Aljay Alamin's poster, titled "Positive Steady State Parametrization of Chemical Reaction Networks with Independent and Identical Decompositions," explored a method for characterizing steady states in chemical reaction networks by examining their decomposition properties.
Michelle Raza's poster, "Modeling the Adaptive Immune Dynamics Against Cancer," aimed to provide a clearer understanding of how the immune system interacts with cancer, offering meaningful insights into this critical area of research.
The awards were given after a highly competitive session featuring 24 presenters. Participants were required to deliver concise, two-minute "gong show" pitches, where they highlighted the significance and innovation of their work. The feedback and support from fellow participants and the panel of judges made the experience both rewarding and inspiring.
Eight students from the ModApp Group presented their research at the workshop, demonstrating the group’s commitment to advancing knowledge in mathematical biology. Their participation reflected a collaborative effort to contribute valuable insights to the field. The recognition of Alamin and Raza highlights the group’s dedication to producing quality interdisciplinary research and supporting the broader mathematical biology community.
