From October 31 to November 2, 2024, the Modeling and Applications Group from the Institute of Mathematics, University of the Philippines Diliman, conducted a benchmarking activity at the Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, Thammasat University, and the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. The delegation included Professor Carlene P.C. Pilar-Arceo, Associate Professor Aurelio A. de los Reyes V, Associate Professor Victoria May P. Mendoza, and Assistant Professor Bryan S. Hernandez.
The primary goal of the visit was to strengthen international partnerships, focusing on collaborative research, academic exchanges, and student development. At Thammasat University, discussions revolved around integrating mathematical techniques into chemical engineering, while the visit to Mahidol University highlighted the use of mathematical modeling in public health, particularly in epidemiology and infectious diseases. To formalize these collaborations, potential Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were discussed, aiming to streamline future joint research efforts and faculty exchanges. This benchmarking activity marks a significant step toward advancing research excellence and academic collaboration in Southeast Asia.
