The ModApp Journal Club kicked off the new semester with incredible energy on March 12, 2026, at MB 126. For our inaugural session, we feature our newest faculty member, Dr. Brenda Lyn Gavina.

Dr. Gavina presented her research titled, “Daytime dosing optimizes contraceptive pill safety and efficacy.” Based on their recently accepted paper, Dr. Gavina explained how her team extended her previous study of a system of delay differential equations (DDEs) governing the endocrine dynamics of the menstrual cycle. By incorporating the body's circadian rhythm into the system, their work optimizes the timing of contraceptive pill dosing needed to safely induce anovulation. The topic resonated with the room, sparking a highly engaged and lively Q&A session right after the presentation.

Perfectly timed for Women’s Month, the Journal Club also served as a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the women in mathematics and science within our own community. To cap off the afternoon, all the women members of the ModApp group gathered for a special post-event photo.
Join the ModApp Journal Club! We meet every other week throughout the semester, and everyone is welcome to join the discussion. You can check out our schedule of upcoming talks and browse our past meetings here: ModApp Journal Club
